Form or Function? What’s More Important in New Home Design

When Designing A New Home Should You Prioritize Form or Function?

There are a seemingly endless slew of considerations that go into designing a new home, and one involves the question of whether you should prioritize form or function? Both are important – you want our home to look great, but you always want it to be highly functional.

So which is more important? Here are our thoughts on the matter.

Which is More Important to New Home Design – Form or Function?

While form is of course an important consideration, function will deliver more value over time. Why? First of all, aesthetic trends change as the years go by – sometimes rapidly – while function is rather consistent. What is beautiful today might not be beautiful tomorrow, but a kitchen island will always deliver the same usability, a pool will always be refreshing in the hot southern Florida sun, and shelves and cabinets will always provide storage.

You can always change your home’s aesthetics to suit your mood and the times. Function, however, is much more difficult to add-in after the fact, and it rarely goes away as the years go by.
